As a warm eyeshadow-lover I had been eyeing for awhile the Smashbox Cover Shot Palette in Ablaze. And a month ago I got it in my hands as my mom gifted this to me as a graduation gift. So, I have been playing with this palette for a good time now to give a proper review.
The Ablaze Cover Shot Palette contains 8 colors, which 3 of them are matte and 5 are shimmery. I was especially intrigued by the red, kinda rustic shade and the shimmery rose shade. By the way, I already created two makeup looks with this palette: Midsummer Sunset Makeup Look here in my blog and one on my Instagram account.
Swatches from top to bottom:
- Relaxed – Matte beige with a pink undertone (you can hardly see it because it’s my exact skin tone)
- Moccasin – Warm gold shimmer
- Siesta – Warm pink shimmer
- Nirvana – Red shimmer with a hint of pink
- Delirious – Deep bronze shimmer
- Torch – Warm orange shimmer
- Throwback – Matte red
- Dark Horse – Deep matte brown
I absolutely love Throwback, one of the shades that made me lust this palette. And Siesta is so romantic, looks amazing with brown eyeliner. Then the most pigmented one which really surprised me was Delirious. It’s a true bronze that suits everyone and can be worn on its own. The hardest one to work with is definitely Dark Horse, the darkest shade. It’s so dry and takes forever to blend. It is a beautiful shade after all and makes all the blending worth it in the end.
The shadows are super pigmented and you don’t need much on your brush. The texture of these shadows is extremely fine, some of them on the other hand are super buttery. I noticed that when using this palette, you must tap of the excess or else you will have falldown. I think that this palette is really missing a transition shade, I just need one more… But because the shadows are so blendable and easy to work with it’s not that big of a deal. You get a beautifully blended look anyway.
Overall I think this is a great everyday palette. You can create plenty of versatile looks with it and the all the colors compliment each other. This reminds me a lot of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette because of the color range. So if you anti-hauled the Modern Renaissance, this is a good alternative. And if you are a warm eyeshadow-lover, then you need this palette in your life.
